Spaceship Products
The Spaceship Enthusiast's One Stop Data Shop!

On this page are the books and source materials for the avid scale builder, the model rocket hobbyist or just someone with a keen interest in rockets and space flight.

Our premier product is Spaceship Handbook. This is the standard reference for the NAR "Concept Scale" event and a source of enjoyment for those with a general interest in the history of the spaceship as a social icon.

For those of you with a little wall space, Spaceship Handbook's gorgeous cover artwork is available in small poster form, both unsigned and signed by the artist. Jon Rogers also has a new version of his Ad Astra per Aspera poster, as well as tons of other neat stuff, available on his website, RogersRocketships.com.

Our other hardcover title, The Saucer Fleet, gives the Spaceship Handbook treatment to 12 of your favorite flying saucers from Movies, TV and other popular entertainment. Check out what the boffo reviews are all about.

Brand new are two Lost in Space titles. First, Robert Rowe gives us the history of the original pilot episode "No Place to Hide" in the first of his Lost in Space Design series. Not to be outdone, Chris Krieg and his team have produced the Jupiter 2 Technical Guide for fans and developers of LiS games and other fan products. This book covers the hardware of both the ship and the expedition with a realistic engineering approach.

Still relatively new is our softcover title 2010: A Scrapbook Odyssey by Jean-Marc Deschamps. Jean-Marc is a journalist with Historie & Collections in Paris which published the French Sci-Fi modeling magazine Dixième Planète (Tenth Planet). For this book he tracked down the whereabouts of the filming models from the 1984 Peter Hyams film and photographed them from every conceivable angle. Jean-Marc is also the one responsible for the special edition of Dixième Planète celebrating models from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey published in conjunction with an exhibit of them in Paris during the film's title year.

If you are looking for Peter Alway's works Rockets of the World and its annual supplements, they're all available in the Saturn Press section.

We’ve expanded our line of actual modeler's guides. From CultTVman we still have the "Starfleet Assembly Manuals." Added to that, we have picked up publication of the "Extreme Rocketry" informational booklets, a valuable resource, especially to the High Power rocket hobbyist.

ARA Press gives discounts to certain groups. If you belong to a qualifying group, simply enter your discount code into the appropriate box at checkout.

Saturn Press Publications

Saturn Press has been shut down since early-2007, but we are licensed to reproduce a number of the Saturn Press booklets. Currently this is all of the annual Supplements to Rockets of the World plus Soviet Missiles . We're working on expanding that to include US Cold War Missiles, Scale Bash, V2, etc.

Thanks to the efforts of the NAR, Rockets of the World is still in publication. ARA Press is the only distributor of this standard reference outside of the NAR itself. Unfortunately, Retro Rockets has sold out and there are no plans to reprint it.

Modelers' Guides

While everyone appreciates the wealth of prototype data available here that can be used to design scratch-built models, some prefer actual guides for techniques and tips when building.

Steve Iverson has collected 17 of the build articles from his CultTVman.com website, into his Ultimate Modelers' Guide. Steve has also published the Star Fleet Assembly Manuals, a collection of all three SFAM's by Paul Newitt.

NEW! Mario Perdue, former staff writer on LAUNCH magazine, has gathered several of his project articles along with significant new material into an important new book, Seize The Sky.

The rocket hobby lost a valuable resource when Brent McNeely ceased publication of Extreme Rocketry magazine. Over the eight years of publication, Brent had built up a sizable library of how-to articles on all phases of the High Power hobby from design to construction to avionics to payloads and post-flight analysis.

Some of these he had published in his Extreme Rocketry series of educational booklets. To keep this important resource available for hobbyists, ARA Press has agreed to continue their publication. Future titles may become available if there is sufficient demand.

The price of all four booklets, Camera Payloads, Vertical Trajectory Systems, Staging High Power and Level 1 Certification remains unchanged at $14.95.The first three booklets remain unchanged other than updated publisher information on the covers. An updated version of the Level 1 Certification booklet was in the works when the end came for ER. It has been completely updated to reflect recent changes in federal regulations.

The first three are available now. The L1 Cert booklet will be available by the end of February. Note: since we also bought out the remainder of the Extreme Rocketry stock, early orders may still have the old Extreme Rocketry covers.
